Richard is a Partner of Appleby in the Corporate and Commercial Practice Group and a member of the Funds and Investment Services Team. Richard has over 17 years experience, with over eight years of Cayman specific experience in private equity and hedge funds. In addition, Richard has focused on in-depth, corporate finance, general corporate work and captive insurance and reinsurance.

Richard has written for several international publications, including Financier Worldwide magazine, The Lawyer and Hedgeweek. He has also written for the Cayman Financial Review.

Richard trained and practised at Paisner & Co (now Berwin Leighton Paisner) and continued his practice at LeBoeuf Lamb Greene & MacRae (now Dewey LeBoeuf) and Denton Wilde Sapte in London. In 2001, Richard joined another leading law firm in the Cayman Islands where he was an Associate until being appointed a Partner in the private equity group in 2008. Richard joined Appleby in 2010.
